How To Care For Your Fabric Upholstery

Congratulations on your new upholstery! We hope you enjoy the comfort, style and high quality sofas you have selected for many years to come. In order to ensure the long life of your fabric upholstery, we recommend providing it with regular care and attention.
Cleaning
Vacuum your upholstery once a week with a specialist fabric attachment to help prevent the build up of dust, crumbs and grime. Pay particular attention to the headrest, arms and seating area which naturally receive a higher degree of wear. Ensure spills are removed as quickly and promptly as possible to prevent staining. Avoid scrubbing or rubbing the spillage as this may damage the fabric and push the stain in further. Instead use a gentle blotting motion with a clean cloth.
For sofas with fixed covers or those that require specialist cleaning, we recommend this is undertaken once a year by a professional upholstery cleaner. Upholstery with removable covers may be machine washable, but be sure to check the internal cover labelling for instructions. Wood or metal facings on your sofa will require minimal maintenance - use a non-abrasive cloth to remove dust.
If ever in doubt, we recommend consulting a professional upholstery cleaning service.
Interiors
On delivery to you the cushions may feel a little firmer than expected as the filling can take some time to settle. During the first 3-6 months of use the cushions will soften by up to 20% - dependent on the level of use - and some creases and wrinkles will form. This is perfectly normal and natural for this style of upholstery. Plumping the seats and backs regularly, particularly for those with fibre and feather interiors, will improve the overall appearance of the upholstery and help prevent compression of the interiors. We inevitably find our favourite seating spot, so don’t be too alarmed if some areas show higher degrees of wear than others. Where fixed seat models are chosen, particular care is needed to avoid ‘side sitting’ (lying or sitting on the edge of interiors) as this can cause excessive dipping of the interior.
General care
Direct sunlight and heat sources can cause fading of the upholstery. Avoid sitting on upholstery with heavily soiled or non-colourfast clothes. Be careful with sharp objects such as children’s toys, keys and belt buckles to avoid snagging or plucking threads. Do not pull loose threads as it may leave a hole. Keeping pets off the furniture will help to reduce the build-up of any animal hair/grease and avoid any claw marks or scratches on your upholstery. Certain materials such as microfibre, chenille and velvet fabrics may display shading through use caused by the pile moving in different directions as you sit on the upholstery.
